Healthcare Leader Mike Butler Appointed Independent Board Director at Linus Health

BOSTON –  December 5, 2024 – Linus Health, a digital health company enabling early detection of Alzheimer’s and other dementias, today announced that Mike Butler has joined its board of directors.

Butler, former president of Providence healthcare system based in Seattle, is an operating partner with the private equity firm Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe, providing advice on healthcare service and technology acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic investors. He is also founder and president of Proponent Advisors, a consulting firm, and co-founder of EcotoneGrowth Ventures, an early-stage venture capital fund.

"It is an honor to serve on the board of Linus Health,” Butler said. “After leading Providence’s growth to serving nearly 2,000x more patients annually, I set a personal mission for this next phase of my career: to partner with pioneering people to give every human being the opportunity to live the healthiest life possible—mind, body, and spirit. This mission is grounded in improving access, affordability, and adherence to care. Linus Health’s mission is well-aligned with my personal one.”

David Bates, PhD, CEO and co-founder of Linus Health, said: “Mike brings unmatched expertise to our board and his knowledge and experience will be invaluable to the success of our operations. Specifically, as Linus expands its offerings for health plans, Mike’s perspective will help us tailor our solutions to that market.”

Many health insurers lack a comprehensive, up-to-date approach to dementia care despite the growing volume of cases and rising cost of treating them, Butler said.

“Linus’ ability to identify members at high risk for undiagnosed mild cognitive impairment and dementia and to stratify populations by risk make it easier for patients to receive necessary care,” Butler said. “This ability also empowers Medicare Advantage plans and provider entities to obtain improved risk adjustment outcomes they need to sustain quality care.”

Before joining Providence, Butler was COO of Franciscan Health System in Tacoma, Wash., and Catholic Health Initiatives in Englewood, Colo. He is a graduate of California State University, Fullerton, and lives in the Seattle area.
